Dorothy…..We’re Not in Kansas Anymore!
Have you ever wondered what you would do if a tornado hit while you were camping? Its not like the movies where they pick up your home or RV and set it back down. They can hit without notice, so you may not have much time. Being prepared ahead of time may save your life. If you are at a campsite and they have a recreation building or a laundromat, that would be the safest place to go. Some campsites have designated tornado shelters, so it would be a good idea to learn where those are ahead of time. Do Not plan on staying inside your tent or RV. Grab only essentials within reach, and don’t go searching for anything. If you are tenting and there are no buildings around, find the lowest ground somewhere, such as a ditch. Watch out for flying debris, which causes more injuries and deaths than the actual tornado. After the storm, assume all downed wires are live and avoid them. Take pictures of any damages for your insurance company so a claim can easily be turned in .
