It’s All Fun and Games, Until Someone’s Marshmallow Catches Fire!

Well, it’s May and that means getting the mothballs out of the RV! But that’s not all you need to do to prepare your home away from home for all the summer fun. We went straight to the source with one of our local dealers, Rugby Homes and RV Center to find out more. They advised the best way to retain the value of your campers/RV is to keep it polished and clean. Keeping it stored inside is the absolute best. Rugby Homes can also assist with any repairs you need to get the season started. According to one of our carriers checklists, you should start with a thorough inspection of the body for any cracks or separation. This step is very important as it could cause major body damage if not properly cared for. Look inside for any stains on the ceiling, which indicates a roof leak. Also look beneath the body for any signs of fuel or fluid leaks. Batteries should be checked and connections cleaned. Lug nuts should be made sure they are secure and tires should be checked for cracks. Look for insect or rodent nests and chewed wires and hoses. Don’t forget about the safety items inside, like batteries in smoke/CO2 detectors, fire extinguishers and your emergency kits. Rugby Homes can also offer advice on winterizing and de-winterizing your campers and RV’s. If your camper looks like the one on the front page, you can also talk to one of their salespeople about an upgrade! When it comes to insuring your unit, the insurance rates are generally based on the value of the unit, which is why you want to talk with your agent about what amount is listed on your policy. Sometimes items are overlooked, like personal property replacement for items like awnings or satellite dishes. Or maybe you need to extend premise liability to your camping lot? If you tow your camper often, you may want to look at adding towing & labor. Some carriers offer safety glass replacement as those RV windshields can cost a pretty penny. NuLine is here for whatever questions you may have. We hope all our insureds have a fun and enjoyable season in 2018 and are free from any weather events. Try out one of our favorite games this year, campfire charades, it’s always a blast! And remember our favorite saying, “what happens around the campfire, stays at the campfire!"
